Creating a vineyard
How to create a new vineyard in the Archer portal or mobile app.
Platform: Mobile and portal
A vineyard represents a single physical site. You need at least one vineyard before you can start mapping blocks or recording trouble spots against a site.
Before you start
- You need to be signed in to the portal with permission to manage vineyards in your organisation (Manager, Admin, or SuperUser).
- Have the vineyard's basic details ready — its name, its sub-region, and its declared (productive) hectares.
Steps
-
In the portal, open Maps.

-
In the Vineyards list, click New vineyard.
-
Fill in the form:
- Name — required. How the vineyard appears across the app and portal. Pick something recognisable, especially if you manage several sites.
- Sub-region — required. Choose the sub-region this vineyard sits in from the dropdown. Saving fails if no sub-region is selected.
- Declared hectares — the productive area used for company billing. Leave it at
0if you don't know it yet, and update it later. - Plant spacing (m) — optional. The default in-row plant spacing in metres, used as the default for any block that doesn't set its own override.
- Plants per bay — optional. The default number of plants per bay, used as the default for any block that doesn't set its own override.

-
Click Create.
The vineyard now appears in the Vineyards list on the Maps page, and is available on mobile devices once they next sync.
Declared hectares feeds billing. This is the productive area your subscription is based on. Increasing it can raise the subscription immediately; decreasing it applies to the next invoice. Get this number right before you save.
Creating a vineyard on mobile
You can also create a vineyard in the Archer Setup app, on the List tab:
-
Open the List tab (the vineyard list).
-
Tap Create new vineyard at the top of the list.
-
Enter the Vineyard Name (required), and optionally the Plant spacing (m) and Plants per bay planting defaults.
-
Tap Create.

The mobile form captures the name and the optional planting defaults only. Set the sub-region and declared hectares in the portal.
Editing a vineyard
To change a vineyard's details, open it on the Maps page and click the pencil icon on the vineyard summary card. The same form opens — make your changes and click Save.

What's next
- Map a block inside your new vineyard using the mobile app.
- Set up any field features you want to record on the site.
Tips
- Vineyards aren't deleted. A SuperUser can Deactivate a vineyard from the edit form, which hides it (and its blocks) from everyone else, and can Reactivate it later. Renaming is easier than starting over, so think about naming before you create one.
- Field devices only see vineyards in the organisations (management groups) they're signed in to. If a user says "I can't see the new vineyard on my phone", check that they're in the right management group and have synced.
