Editing block details

Platform: Mobile and portal

A block has two kinds of detail you can edit:

• Name and variety — set when you create a block, and changed on the mobile app only.
• Planting settings and per-row counts — plant spacing, plants per bay, and the per-row block sheet. These can be edited on both the portal and the mobile app.

The boundary itself (the block's shape and rows) is re-drawn from the mobile app, in the field — see Mapping a block.

What you can edit

• Name — mobile only, while editing a draft block.
• Variety — mobile only, while editing a draft block.
• Plant spacing (metres) — portal and mobile.
• Plants per bay — portal and mobile.
• Per-row block-sheet values — actual positions and subtractions per row — portal and mobile.

Plant spacing and plants per bay drive the estimated plant counts. Leave them blank to inherit the vineyard default; see Editing planting settings below.

How edits relate to versions

• Planting settings (spacing, plants per bay) and block-sheet rows update in place — they do not create a new block version.
• Changing the boundary or rows (geometry) requires a Draft version, and is done on mobile.
• Name and variety on a block that's already on the server are changed through the version workflow on mobile: create a new Draft, edit it, then release. See Block versioning.

Editing name and variety (mobile)

You edit a block's name and variety while it's open in the block editor (the block wizard). This is available for draft blocks — a brand-new block you're still creating, or a new draft of an existing block.

1. Open the block:

   • For a new or draft block, open the block editor from the vineyard.
   • For a block that's already released, open the block, then in Version History use the latest version's menu (the three dots) and choose New Draft. Select the new draft, then tap Edit Geometry to open it in the editor.

2. At the top of the editor, the block's name and variety are shown with a small pencil icon. Tap them to open the Edit Block Details dialog.

3. In the dialog, update the Block Name and choose a Variety from the list (variety is optional).

4. Tap Save. The name and variety are saved immediately.

5. If you created a new draft to make this change, release the draft when you're done so the new name/variety becomes the live version. See Block versioning.

Note: Name and variety are not editable in the portal. The portal shows the block's variety read-only; to change it, use the mobile app.

Editing planting settings

Plant spacing and plants per bay can be set at the vineyard level (the default) or overridden per block. A block that has no override inherits the vineyard default. Each value shows a small source chip that tells you where the number comes from:

• An override set on this block — shown as Block on the mobile app, and Set on block in the portal.
• The vineyard default — shown as Inherited on the mobile app, and From vineyard in the portal.
• Not set — no value on the block or the vineyard. Plant counts can't be estimated until spacing is set.

Leaving a field blank clears the block override, so the block falls back to the vineyard default.

In the portal

1. Open Maps and select the vineyard.

2. In the block list, click the block to expand it.

3. In the Planting section, click the pencil ("Edit plant spacing and bay").

4. Enter Spacing (m) and/or Plants per bay. Leave a field blank to inherit the vineyard default ("From vineyard").

5. Click Save.

On the mobile app

1. Open the vineyard, then tap the block to open its detail screen.

2. In the Planting section, tap Edit.

3. Enter Plant spacing (m) and/or Plants per bay. The placeholder shows the inherited vineyard value; leave a field blank to clear the override.

4. Tap Save.

Editing the block sheet (per-row counts)

The block sheet lists every row in the block with its linear metres, the estimated positions, and editable actual positions and subtractions. Estimates use the effective plant spacing; entering actuals or subtractions overrides the estimate for that row. Plant counts also use plants per bay.

In the portal

1. Expand the block in Maps (as above).

2. Click Block sheet in the Planting section.

3. Edit the Actual and Subtractions values per row. Use the reset button on a row to clear its overrides.

On the mobile app

1. Open the block's detail screen.
2. Tap Block sheet.
3. Edit the per-row values and save. The block's totals refresh to reflect the new overrides.

Re-drawing a block boundary

If you need to change the shape of a block — for example, because the original capture was wrong or because the planting has actually changed — that's done on the mobile app by capturing a new boundary. This creates a new Draft version of the block; the previously released version stays in place until you release the new one.
